Highlights
I have been glued to the Olympics all month. I am sorry to see
them end! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the games, hearing
the bios of the athletes and visiting the Italian country through
the Today show. I think I have been late to work every day due
to being totally entertained by Katie, Matt and AL!!! I love
that the Olympics can bring so many nations together and being
patriotic is actually valued! Being immersed in the Italian
culture though the TV has also made me really want to return.
I loved when I visited there in the mid-90's. Since I have been
BB I haven't traveled abroad. I would love to travel abroad
more and hope to do so in the future.
REPORT
FROM THE PRO IRONMAN
PRO IRON
MAN - Pasadena Ca. The start to the bodybuilding season has
begun! The Pro Ironman in Pasadena, California took place 2/17th
- 19th. It was a well run show in a beautiful venue in quaint
Pasadena. There was an expo, seminars and power lifting meets
held throughout the weekend. If you were bored with bodybuilding
you could just walk across the street and find great shops,
restaurants and even cinemas. I was impressed with the organization
of the show and the selection of events. The pros were looking
great but I think some of them will be looking even tighter
for the Arnold. There was a thrilling showdown between David
Henry and Lee Preist for the win. Lee edged out Dave by a bit.
Some will argue that Dave had Lee beat but Dave was happy with
the outcome and his presentation. He is still a relatively new
pro who is making himself noticed and for good reason. He was
the best conditioned athlete in the show (as usual) and he is
gaining quality muscle with every showing!! You go Dave!!
TOP FIVE PLACINGS - Lee Preist, Dave Henry, Troy Alves(classy
posing routine to Joss Stone!), Kris Dim and Mark Dugdale. My
boy, Toney Freeman looked great and I am sure he will be even
tighter for the Arnold! Hang in there Big T!
SO CAL Travels
I
was able to see many friends and acquaintances in the expo
and throughout the weekend. Big shout out to Isaac Hinds,
great seeing you ! I also had a chance to visit with Dave
"Jumbo" Palumbo, Colette Nelson, Kristy Hawkins
and Bob Bonham from the East Coast. Well Kristy, is really
attending school out west and lives in Pasedena she looked
great! Bob was with a friend of his, Hollis, who is living
in Hollywood. Phil Heath was there with his girl and Melvin
and Shawn Ray were at the Vyotech booth. I bought my first
BB
video!! Yes that's right...Lenda Murray's, of course. |
 |
I
also got my picture taken with her. She is so beautiful and
full of class. (Can you tell I am star struck?) She was in the
professional trainers booth with all sorts of peeps like; Abbas
Katahm, Charles Glass, Paulina Taulas, Will Harris, Sherry Goggins
and Jennifer Searles. I bought a collectors item stone belt
by Chakrocks! Selma MacPherson (NPC figure competitor) is starting
a new business and was displaying her wares to the BB public
first. I got a great belt wholesale but soon the prices will
quadruple. Her belts will be in the Oscar goody bags and Missy
Elliott has three as well. Selma will be big time soon! You
go GURL!!!!All in all the show was a great Kick off to the year!!
| The
rest of my trip was great with the exception of the unseasonable
cold weather. Me and Nicki did a lot of exploring of the
Santa Monica, Venice area. We ate a a couple great spots
as well as the world famous (at least in BB circles) FIREHOUSE!
We trained at the Gold's Gym Venice and walked from the
Venice Beach Pier to the Santa Monica Pier. The famous "muscle
Beach" had some sorry looking athletes in there. Nicki
and I joked that if we went in there to train we would have
developed a big audience!! |
 |
We went
into Beverly Hills and Hollywood and just chilled. I loved SoCal
and am looking forward to my return. Next time I want to see
the nightlife!!I have to say that my highlight was training
at the Gold's/Venice. It wasn't so much the famous trainers
or bodybuilders that were around (although it was cool to see
Charles Glass, Tito Raymond, Paulina Talus, Will Harris, Mike
Morris, Mike Ergas all at work!) but more so the VIBE! You could
just feel the history in the place. The old pictures of all
the USA/Olympia and Ms. O winners from the beginning of time!
They had every machine and weight known to man and then some.
We didn't even know what some of the stuff was !! It was just
a great vibe. I loved training and then going to eat at the
Firehouse. I see how easy it is to be a BB there!
