CARLA'S TRAINING
Post Atlantic City

Although I was happy with my placing at my pro debut in Atlantic City, I was not happy with the package I brought to the stage.

Carla - Atlantic City Pro 2006

Cardio has stayed steady at DOUBLE 45 MINUTES SESSIONS twice a day. As many times a week as I can I do at least half of one of the sessions on the gauntlet to improve the shape of my glutes.

Lifting has taken a bit of a back seat. I felt that I would rest in that area some.

I have hit the gym 2-3 times a week with overall body workouts just to keep the blood flowing.

I have returned to contact kickboxing and am trying to maintain my commitment to this class twice a week.

It is a totally awesome work out but really tough! Sensi Red Dragon is kicking my BUTT!!!

In comparing myself with ONLY myself, I did not best my 2005 package…that said, I have decided to stick to a pretty rigorous cardio and diet schedule at least through the fall.

FIT TIP
Make Simple Changes

Making simple changes that you can STICK WITH (being consistent) is most effective for lifelong health and weight control. These changes become NEW HABITS. Two simple changes could be: 1)restrict or limit junk food 2)change all dairy products to fat free/skim.

Make one change a t a time for 20-30 days consistently and it should be a habit by then. Once it is a habit try something new to change. Changing too many things at once can be overwhelming and hard to maintain!

2006 - Olympia

Las Vegas

Las Vegas - I think it was more exciting working backstage with the Olympians than it was for me to compete!!! These athletes are THE most elite in the world for Bodybuilding/Figure and Fitness!

My adrenaline never stopped!

I got to Vegas on Wed. (9/27/06) prior to the start of the weekend's events.

I was responsible for all Big Bill's (Willmore) food prep (as I had done at the spring shows) as well as work for Protan. Mary Hobbs was added to the team to "spray tan" the athletes wanting this free service and she was there on Wed. as well. Mary had done a great job at scheduling all the appointments (as many as the athlete wanted), prepping the room and doing all the clean up! She was a great asset to the team!

In between Bill's meals, I attended as many events as possible. There was the Athletes' meeting on Wednesday, the press conference on Thursday as well as the IFBB athlete only meeting on Thursday.

I wanted to make sure and attend this as it was my first invited meeting as an athlete…unfortunately not many athletes' showed up. Of course, many of them were competing and the press conference went a LONG time!

I did get a little overall body work out in on Thursday with Q from Mayhem..not a lot of cardio except for running around in the big ass hotel!!

Bill Willmore

Thursday night was the "Meet and Greet the OLYMPIANS". This was really cool as the place was packed with fans and ALL the pros (both competing and not) were there. I got a chance to catch up with Mayhem peeps and other pros as well. I also had the opportunity to help out Big T Freeman with his color. He was looking crazy big! I was so happy and proud for Colette Nelson and Dr. Dena Westerfield (she won her card with me) for making their Olympia debuts!

There is always a huge buzz in and around the hotel during these things with people catching up with each other and running into each other. It's really fun.

My girl, Lana came in on Friday as did many other friends. Friday was a big work day as the women's prejudge was held in the EXPO and the men's Prejudge and Women's night show were that evening in the Orleans Arena.

The female BB got back onto the Arena stage where they belong! YEAH!!!! It was a total rush being backstage helping these women…

I have an even bigger respect for these athletes. Seeing them up close and personal at this level was just amazing. It was funny because many of the figure pros I have worked with when they were amateurs but many of the Women Bodybuilders are so established that they have been around much longer than I have been backstage!

Inside Edition was backstage interviewing us about what we were doing as Lisa Aukland had shot with them for a piece. Me, Nicki and Mary were the crew and it was so much more manageable due to the fact that there were only around 20 or so in each class vs. the usual 300 at the national level shows! It was a pleasure being able to give special attention to these premier athletes.

Lisa Aukland

The men at night were the same. It was a huge rush attending to these athletes and having them respond to the attention we were giving them.
I noticed how calm and actually friendly these athletes were with each other for the most part. You could see how being a professional is different than an amateur. The really hold a lot of respect for each other. It was cool. My boy Bill was soaking it all in and I was just happy for him being there. There were International athletes there as well. IT WAS ELECTRIC!

Friday night I was lucky enough to have Lana look out for me and feed me dinner…most of my meals had been taken with Big Bill in his room (clean food!). I had about 20 minutes to join the Lana' Crew for dinner and she made sure I ate!
Gotta love a GOOMBAH sister!

Saturday it was time to go to the EXPO and work the booth for the day. Nicki showed up for a couple hours while Dave was in the Muscle Tech Booth and Mary swung by after she was finished spraying people but I tried to spend most of my day with Stacy in the booth. I didn't even see ½ of the expo. It was definitely bigger than last year…maybe by 3 times.

I did a short interview with Kenny Castle for something he was working on and stopped by the Hitech booth to thank Chad Nicols for generously sending me product but most of the day was in the booth.

I had rented an awesome little PT Cruiser convertible…it was the BOMB and I loved getting around in it. I really didn't go far..to the store..to the gym..to the venue! What a blast!

Saturday night was the finals in the Orleans Arena.

We added Rob Lopez to our backstage crew. We also had Stronghold Ministries in attendance all weekend, not only praying for all of us but helping us out the whole time.

Thank God (literally) for Mike and Andy!

Of course you all know by now that history was made and a new Mr. Olympia was crowned!

Jay Cutler got the well deserved nod. I think Lana almost had a heart attack she was sooo HAPPY! Most of the Athletes were really ON this year! I think David Henry looked awesome but got lover looked among the mass monsters.

He had the best conditioning in the show (as usual)….but Big T Freeman broke the top 10 so that was cool. Big Bill…he was just happy to be there…an OLYMPIAN and true champion!

I headed out to Lana's party after the show. The supplement company's all had there party's in different places so people were spread out ALL OVER VEGAS! That is the only problem…you don't get to see everyone…at the ARNOLD, all the company's have their party in the same place so everyone is together! Regardless…Lana was an excellent hostess and her party rocked at MIXX at THE hotel.

Dave Henry

Muscle Mayhem peeps were there: Sage, Nida, Mike, Doc and Beth, Rick and Lisa, Q…so many more! We moved on the EMPIRE where we ran into Big Ronnie and his entourage.
It was awesome getting to visit with Alti. Chris Cormier stopped by, Art Atwood was in attendance.

Haney showed up…he is just the BEST! Nicki and Dave had already joined us at MIX so I was glad they were there. I met lots' of new people and got to visit with friends. Still…I felt like there wasn't enough time to visit with EVERYONE!

Of course we were out till morning…it's VEGAS after all, but I did manage to get a little sleep before heading out for a desert shoot with Dan Rey. Mary and Paco came out too. It was awesome…I was moving in slow motion and really was tired but it was SOO worth going! The desert is BEAUTIFUL! It totally energized me! We were at Red Rock (past the new casino/resort) and we got there just in time to get a shoot in before dark but when it gets dark…man, it happens fast!
Dan was awesome can't wait to get some of the pics up!

Sunday night was chilling…I moved myself over to Lana's room and got to spend some quality time with her (not enough though!) I got a meal in and crashed..people hadn't called back until after I was already crashed so much needed sleep…I got it!
All in all…great trip and overall Priceless experience!

I hope we get to do it all over again next year!

NORTHEAST TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS/GRANITE AND
MASSACHUSETTS STATE

The following weekend found me entertaining Big Bill Wilmore in Springfield before driving him up to New Hampshire for guest posing at Maggie and Dave's show.
It was awesome having Big Bill here; we visited with my parents, went to the mall and I watched him EAT!....... A LOT!!
I had to judge the show the following day so we had to be there by noon.

Bill hung out while I worked and then we both guest posed for the finals.

The level of athlete was pretty good and judging was tough for a few of the calls! Posing for the crowd was awesome. I went out and did my Big Spender Routine alone and then Bill called me back out at the end of his routine to go into the audience. What a blast! The crowd was really responsive! I was thrilled with the positive feed back I was getting for Female BB. Given there wasn't one FBB competing I really felt it was important to try to nurture this for NE!

I really felt like I was working on achieving my goal of proving that FBB can be pretty , marketable and feminine! Hopefully NE with think the same and turn out for the next show!?

I was able to give a plug to Maggie for sponsoring my suits too!.
After the show we got dinner and then met Dave and Maggie (right) and the crew at a local club for last call.

The following day was a beautiful sunny fall day..the leaves were bright and the ride back to Springfield relaxing.

Big Bill was sent off and was looking forward to being flown to Ireland the next week for appearances…Lucky HIM!

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Boneless Porkchops

You will need:

4 boneless porkchops, fat trimmed
½ Cup sundried tomatoes
¼ Cup sliced sweet onion
Olive oil spray oil
½ Cup white wine
or
½ Cup low sodium/low fat chicken broth
Salt/ fresh ground pepper/parsley

Olive oil Pam

Preheat oven to 350

Spray a heavy fry pan with the olive oil Pam and get it hot.
Salute porkchops, 3-5 minutes each side (till browned).
Season with salt/pepper/parsely and add onions.
Turn chops once.

Add wine and sundried tomatoes, bring to a boil then lower heat and lightly cover.
Simmer chops till done (about 20 minutes depending on thickness of chops).

If liquid evaporates add a small amount of chicken broth.

Most of the liquid should be evaporated before serving
so you may want to uncover pan and not put the heat too low.
