Carla's Training

I have gotten back on a good roll for training. There has been so much transition in my life this spring that I had to regroup before I could focus on my own training. I am working toward building my personal training business which is going well; as well as, get ready to compete in the Atlantic City Pro in September. The IFBB is allowing the Pro women to cross over to any medium of competition they want this year. I have thought about it and after much encouragement have to decided to not only compete in BB but also to try my hand at figure. That's right. . .the Mighty Lightweight is trying her hand at FIGURE! There aren't many Female Bodybuilders that can even attempt this. I may be a bit too muscular but I think it will help my mission which is to prove that Female Bodybuilders can be both marketable and pretty!

Stay tuned to see how this unfolds!

Tonight I appeared on Muscular Development Magazine- No Bull Radio as a special guest. Dave Palumbo and John Romano, the Mob Suad welcomed me to the show and agreed that with my Italian descent I am an official member of the "MOB SQUAD." SWEET!! The topic was how to prepare your skin for proper application of Protan before a competition. Go to www.musculardevelopmentmagazine.com to hear the interview. You can also go to the forums and see a thread devoted to me as well as a few other interviews that were done. Check it out!

Next month stay tuned for reports on the Colorado Pro and the Jr. Nationals!!!!

Bodybuilding is in full swing folks!!!!

CONTEST PREP TIP
Practice posing every morning after your morning cardio. It will only take 10-15 minutes but it will be done. Go through your mandatory poses and quarter turns at least twice. It helps you to feel more comfortable on stage and it's a good workout!

Use a posing coach if necessary. Buy videos ahead of time to get ideas of easy and graceful transitions.

Posing is an art! Don't wait till the last minute to learn or improve on what you already know! You have put so much time and effort into the diet, cardio and training that you want to be able to showcase yourself like a pro!!!

FIT TIP OF THE MONTH

Shop the perimeter of the grocery store!

The set-up of most supermarkets has the fresh produce, meats, eggs & dairy around the outer aisles. There is no need to go up and down the aisles which is where you find the most processed and high fat/sugar foods.

You will need to hit the aisles for spices, spray oils, oatmeal and such but most of the foods you need for clean eating are around the outer perimeter!!!

No need to spend hours going up and down the aisles!!! EAT CLEAN. . .SHOP the PERIMETER!!!!

MAY 2007 TRAVELS

NPC New England Championships - Boston 5-6-07

As usual Jimmy Decotis put on a great show with New Englands' top bodybuilding, fitness and figure athletes. New England Chairman, Dave Follensbee, represented the NPC well. He is working hard to bring bodybuilding, fitness and figure back into popularity.

Guest posers Jay Cutler, Dave Palumbo, Colette Nelson, Evan Cetopani were all in attendance, and true to New England audience form, they loved Jay! New Englands own, Mr. Olympia!! Next year Jimmy is joining with Jay and naming the show the Jay Cutler New England Championships! It's nice to have Mr. Olympia bring it back home!

New York Pro - New York City- 5/19/07
A beautiful summer-like day in New York had us working for Protan backstage at the New York Pro. There is a new host hotel at the Holiday Inn near Canal Street where there is much hustle and bustle of the street vendors. The hotel is located at the edge of Soho, Tribecea, Little Italy and Greenwich Village. It's a little farther away from the Tribeca Performing Arts Center than we are used to but the athletes were all there and it made for a familiar scene. Pros in attendance not competing were: Marvelous Melvin Anthony, Milos Sarcev, Heather Foster, Victor Martinez, Heidi Fletcher, Debbie Kruck. . .just to name a few!!

The STONE CUTTER expediting crew was awaiting our arrival and it's always like coming home backstage to see them! Kim Klein (reigning Ms. International), Rob Klein, Steve and Andrea Stone and other regulars like Oren, Liz and Marie!
The pro men made a great showing as they kicked off the first of the mid-season shows.
Branch Warren won. Protan worked hard to make him as dark as possible. It was an improvement and we were happy to help! The rest of the top five were: Dennis James, Dennis Wolf, Silvio Samuel, Desmond Miller. The sensation of the evening however was Kai Greene. He brought in a much improved package and posed like none other.

It was clear that Kai wanted to make a statement and he did. Ever the quiet and humble guy backstage, he was bombarded with press from various magazines after he got off stage. It was felt that he was overlooked. Steve Blechman form MD magazine agreed to sign him to an exclusive deal and Milos Sarcev offered to work with him for the upcoming shows. He really did steal the show.

All in all it was a nice weekend as Nicki and I didn't have as much work as usual. WE actually were able to enjoy the city a bit. We had a nice dinner and spent some time with her aunt Maureen as well as made a visit to Dr. Mike Fuellner's new bar Luv 24/7. It's a cute little joint in the lower east side.

June 2007 TRAVELS

6/1/07
Denver Colorado
Shawn Ray's Colorado Pro/Am

I arrived in gorgeous downtown Denver and the weather was just beautiful. Clear skies, bright colors and the beautiful Rockie Mountains in the distance. After settling in and getting all the Protan product situated, I helped out Pam Betz organize and atagorize badges and plans and such. Jeff Taylor and his wife are fabulous hosts and were very welcoming as all the Denver contigency was.

The athletes started rolling in; Toney Freeman, Silvio Samuel, Big Bill Wilmore, Ronny Rockell, Dennis James, Branch Warren, Darrem Charles and family among many more!!!! Phil Heath was gracing the lobby bar Thursday night as he was going to be out of town for the weekend at a guest appearance. The resturant was filled with Bodybuilders and the hotel was very classy. The bedding was FABULOUS!!!! The fitness room had top notch brand new cardio equipment and a lap pool (you don't see many body builders swiming laps!!!!lol)

Me and Nicki with our Protan helpers

Expo set-up was across the street from the hotel. I got things arranged over there and took the trek to the theater which was a long way away from the expo. That was the only complaint of the weekend. . .the expo wasn't frequented enough due to the distance from the venue. It was double in size with vendors and boxing, mixed martial arts, arm wrestling and much more!

Once national sales manager, Brandon Cardinal, arrived he worked the booth while me and Nicki held it down backstage. We had awesome Colorado helpers; Tiffany and Nicole, they hung tough through the whole 2 day event and had a smile the whole time. I think they were a little star struck with the pro men!!!

Figure pros and amatuers went out on Friday night and Men's Pros were out from prejudging on Saturday after noon. The finals for all were Saturday evening. The beautiful and elegant Valerie Wagman took the Pro Figure and up and coming Kai Greene took the men's show with Darrem Charles relegated to second. Ronny Rockel was third, Silvio Samuel was fourth and our own Dave Henry took a fifth place. Dave was absolutely peeled. . .the Dave we all know and love!!!! Unfortunately the 5th place didn't give him an Olympia qualification so he goes back to the drawing board in Atlantic City (with me. . .YEAH!!!!)

Me with Figure Pro winner, Valerie Wagman

I have to say that Kai was so genuinely overwhlemed it almost brought me to tears. He thanked me afterwards for always being a positive energy for him when he is on stage. He told me that good things happen for him when I am there!!!!! It was so sweet. . .this is the upswing of this job!!! The pro men & women were awesome to work with. . .no drama, just business. Silvio always has a smile on his face and Leo Ingram is easy to get giggling!!!!

We spent time after the show at the only resturant still open; The Cheesecake Factory!!! Me, Nicki and Dave and his daughter Lyssi ate with Pastor's Mike and Andy. Silvio actually was gracious enough to buy my dinner for me!!! All the people from the show were there: Vyotech crew; Shawn Ray, Vince and Spiro, Lisa Bickles, Mary Lado, Bill Wilmore; Phat Boi owners Nadine and Scott, Leo Ingram, all the figure girls!!!

Denver is a beautiful place with friendly people. . .I love visiting this town and can't wait to return next year!!

6/17/07
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
JR. NATIONALS

Arrival in Chicago was uneventful with the exception of the host hotel's total renovation!! It was classy!!!! Mary Hobbs was already there checking in with Pam Betz who had arranged for us to have a special room for spray tanning!! This was an addition to the Protan crew and we wanted it to go well. It was an awesome set up. The only problem was one missing box of Protan and backstage oils!! Of course it is never right unless something is missing!!! We made due until we could track down the box and the people started filtering in every 15 minutes for Mary to tan!!! What a racket. I stayed to help Mary as long as possible until I went to train at a local gym with Quinton Thomas who is preparing for the USA'S in July. Nicki got in around 3-ish and was able to take over for me so I could conduct weigh-ins. The lobby was packed and the quality of athlete was matching the USA'S. . .the competitors were spot on!

My client, Lori "Rip It Up Baby" Steele, made it in and weighed in at around 110. She looked great but still needed to fill out!! NO problem there!!!! Tim and Brandie Gardner showed up with Diana Cook who was competing in the heavyweight women's division. Everyone was looking like they had done their homework and according to Brandie she really had (for once) listened to Tim!!! He is the Boss, after all!

This show was huge. . .there were pro athletes all over working for their companies; Marcus Haley, Debbie Patton, Don Long, Kendra Alias, Colette Nelson, Bob Cick. . .to name a few. The MD crew was in attendance, as well as the bodybuilding.com crew!! Krissy Murrell's trainer, Tony, was there with some people, and he brought us a "gift" for Staurday night. Thanks Krissy!!!! Always thinking of us even when she isn't there.

We headed to work for Fabulous Female Friday and got it done Protan Chica style, as usual. Our yearly helpers - Gina and Kelly - showed up true-to-form and did a great job helping us. We don't even need to tell them how to do it anymore!!! My girl Lori looked fabulous, and I thought she had her class right then. . .we went over her plan for the next day as she wouldn't go on until the evening for the night show. . .she wanted to eat!!!! GNAT from MM was also in attendance looking just fine. All the women were really conditioned and on point this year! Maggie Blanchard was there in fitness representing Team NE as well and sporting another FABULOUS bedazzeled suit!!

Me and Lori Steele

Me and Brandie G.

The men went out on Saturday morning along with figure. Brandie got excellent call-outs and was very happy to be working her way up the figure ladder. The night show brought much joy as Lori took her class, Diana (Team Body*Tech) took her class and the overall, and Brandie took a well deserved 5th! Maggie Blanchard brought home a third place trophey. The overall men's winner was Michael Locke. . .a true anomley. Victor from MM took his class and got engaged!!! He was shredded! There was a light-heavy weight, Brandon, that we will be seeing more of!!! Great showing for sure!!!!!

People all just lingered in the lobby at the bar after the show and ordered take out pizza. It was fun to just visit with everyone; Tracy Toth, John Sherman and crew, Tim, Brandie and Scott and Diana Cook (I took her luggage by mistake and she called the cops. . .opppps!!!) I was able to share a bottle of champagne with my gurl Lori. and also had breakfast and Cold Stone (my cheat!!!!! meal) wth her to celebrate her victory. Now I know how Tim feels. . .so proud! It was nerve racking but she did everything I told her and we did great!!! It was a blast. You can see pictures on the Muscular development Forum under Womens' BB. . .She got tons of press and recognition. She owned the stage in the overall posedown!!! She was awesome. Her and Tony are the best!!!!

Poor NIcki was out of there at 4 am for a very early morning flight. . .so much for that visit!!!!

All in all a great show! Now a little down-time until we gear up for a VERY BUSY JULY!!!

Stay Tuned!!!
